When I saw this onions au gratin recipe, I saved it because, other than being extra easy, it is prepared with only good ingredients. So, it could only be a tasty dish.
I admit that I was pleasantly surprised when I first prepared it, as it is much more than tasty. It is that kind of comforting, tasty and inviting dish. Of course for those of you who like onions.
I never had leftovers preparing these onions au gratin. The smell is fantastic and I assure you won’t resist lefting a piece on the plate. I found this recipe here, and made a few changes using a homemade breadcrumb.
The first smell is the one of the onions while cooking with olive oil. It is such a familiar flavor that I believe quite all of us remember from our childhood. Then you add tomatoes, mozzarella and homemade breadcrumbs (my last vice), bake half an hour and it’s done.
I feel sorry as the photos are not beautiful. I’ll try to make another shoots when preparing onions au gratin again, but I didn’t want to posticipate sharing this recipe as it is so tasty that I wanted you to have it soon 😉
- Turn on the oven to 376°F/180°C.
- Clean the onion and cut it in small pieces.
- Put a thread of extra virgin olive oil in a non adherent pan, turn on the gas and add the chopped onion.
- Let it cook, stirring often, until soften.
- In your food processor blend the bread, grated cheese, olive oil and rosemary until become breadcrumbs. Add salt and pepper.
- Wash the tomatoes and cut them in slices or in halves if cherry tomatoes.
- Cut the mozzarella in small pieces.
- Grease a pyrex or a baking pan with extra virgin olive oil.
- Create a layer with the onions.
- Add a layer of all tomatoes and coCover it all with the homemade breadcrumbs and bake until lightly golden.
